Feed and Give: An Exception
Im making an exception this time.
We‘ve done something different.
We‘ve engaged an activity that is unusual for the likes of us.
We have done a non-running activity.
...And it‘s not even a sport!
Background music playing in my mind:
Kung kaya mong isipin
Kaya mong gawin
Isa-isang hakbang lamang at ikay makakarating
Tulad ng puno na galing sa binhi
Ang mga dakilang gawaý nagmumula sa guni-guni
Yes. We did engage into a charitable activity.
We gathered children (exactly 34 of them) from different places in cooperation with Hands-On Manila and Child Hope Asia and asked them to go to Jollibee Evangelista. We treated them to some meals and take them to a game of never-ending fun.
Thanks to the kindness of Miss May Simaurio, the Manager of the Jollibee Branch who allowed us to use the facility for our activity.

Going home to my family…after all the fun and charity, the same music played in my mind…
Kung kaya mong isipin…kaya mong gawin…
Isa-isang hakbang lamang at ikaý makakarating…
Tulad ng Puno na galing sa binhi…ang mga dakilang gawaý nagmumula…sa guni-guni.
I want I NEED
I want to start running…
I need a gait analysis – to see what my foot strike is and what shoe would fit me.
I need a shoe – a dependable and durable shoe.
I need to look like a runner.
I want to build my endurance…
I need to run long…long hours…long distances.
I need to sleep early…no gimmicks.
I want to run and finish alive…
I need to be cautious.
I need to run at my manageable and sustainable pace.
I need to listen to my body.
I need to hydrate and fuel – before, during and after my run.
I need a running buddy – one who will never leave me.
I want to run fast…
I need to train for speed.
I need to conquer more hills.
I need to sustain my yasso.
I need to practice fartleks.
I need to run under a resistance.
I want to endure an ULTRA distance…
I need to train for longer hours.
I need a good base of solid endurance.
I need to practice under the heat.
I need to practice under the cold.
I want to finish the QCIM, SIM and PIM 42.195KMS.
I need to register first.
I need a sponsor!
I need to train more.
I need to build-up more endurance.
I need to recover fast.
Humid but Nice Night of Running
Last night was a very humid night … Very Crowded…but just too silent.
The first Night RUN Race proved to be a good run for most of us in the group.
Yes, there’s no doubt it was hell of a run.
Humid – you’ré forced to drink from time to time and slow down too.
Crowded – you’re forced to find your way zigzagging in speed overtaking the walkers.
Fun – you’re tried now in running blind. (you should know what I mean, specially going down Bayani Road.)
I was really trying to beat an old record of 92 minutes for the 15 kms. I ended up at 95. Not bad…not bad…
The feeling after overtaking a lot of people to the finish line was just so nice. I was near elation for having performed better despite the humidity and the crowd. I noticed though, that after maintaining an average of 6:00 minutes/km up to the 8th KM Marker, the Newton Gravity Shoe Racer was in so much heat. I could feel it at the ball of my forefoot. I wanted to slow down, but the will to finish at a better time took me over. I endured the heat. I even shift to heel striking going down some hills at a furious speed. Hence, the scratch on the shoe. But overall, the shoe performed well and nice for its intended use – propeling me forward at a good speed.
While the gang re-grouped after the run, the usual picture taking took place – like an endless something. But it does ended…when we decided to change wear. And something good happened.
We were on our way to the car of Doc Topher, when we chanced upon Sir Jovie aka Bald Runner.
I was expecting the meet-up before the race, not after. Anyways, good thing still happened.

… Such an Honor for me. Who wouldn’t be? I worked hard on my endurance, hence the big mileage. I have lots more to run – which I suppose is something that will just never end.
…and may I mention, Team Bald Runner did took out the Champions Crown for the Men’s 15K and Women 10K Division last night. Wow.
Am not as fast as everybody else now. I am not slow too. But I am working on Speed now. Soon…
Gotta thank some people now.
#1 Doctor Lyndon Cosico. You’ve done so much. (Special mention to Ms. Karen)
#2 Sir Jovie Narcise aka Bald Runner – for the 1,000-Km Club Shirt (Am really honored, Sir)
#3 The guys and gals of Takbo.PH for the fun of just being there.

#4 Carlo – for the nice tasting Lechon Cebu

#5 Neil – for the Nutella, and bread (which disappeared in a zap) and Macaroni Salad.

Above all, next to God, who Blessed the night rainless, me strength, my wife Cora for being specially understanding and nice. (OK ba ito, Mommy? Mwah!)
More races to conquer, More LSDs to finish, More friends to gain.

IRONIC GUERILLA ACTIVATION
1630H Coming early to meet some peeps for an early chat over something equally important, I proceeded to McDonalds Valero to wait for the guys.
A couple of minutes pass, Pio came followed by RJ. Then, Marga and Tina. The discussion freely flowed and I was glad at the product of it. The twister fries vanished like a twister too…and then more peeps came.
The flow of the group comes so fast that we have to transfer to a bigger table to accomodate everyone else.
Soon, we’re outside and chatting with a huge group of runners clad in orange or black uniform. As usual, photo-ops followed suit and it was just plain fun.

My shoes…and that of Rene aka JazzRunner.

A circle (or half-moon?) of new shoes for break-in.

Photo credit to Rodel aka Argonaut. and Marvin aka NuttyBunny.
Thanks to Carina, and Doc Topher for allowing their cars to be transformed into a baggage counter.
Thanks to PIO (for the twister fries) and RJ and Marga for coming early…we were able to discuss a lot.

Thanks to Tokyo Tokyo, and MacDonald’s for being there as a venue for this Kenny Roger’s Guerilla Activation.
Funny…we all came to support the call. No questions asked. Just plain and pure support.
ADDICTION, ADDICTION
October is one month to look forward to. And for so many reasons.
#1 The Quezon City International Marathon. (long awaited)
#2 The Subic International Marathon (anticipated)
#3 Nike Human Race (considered)
#4 Adidas King of the Road
With a couple of friends and pushers behind me, we shall hit the history with a back to back full marathon on October. Yeah….BACK-to-BACK.
To make it more exciting, if the group is also decided, we could insert the 10K Nike Human Race on the same day of the SIM.
Hmmm…I heard somebody asked if anybody wants to go back to Manila the night after SIM for KOTR. Hmmm…
Exciting as it is, it will take a lot of hard running and LSDs to get this feat done.
Off to writing…back to training.
Giving Something Back
The 23th of this month is some date I am looking forward to. For so many reasons, I’d like to count them ways…
#1 We shall be taking the day out not to run, but to do something else.
#2 We shall be walking, and not run.
#3 We shall be having breakfast, not alone, but with someone else. Not even our family.
#4 We shall be giving out necessities to these kids. Gladly, we will.
#5 We shall all be going home with a light heart…knowing that whatever we shall have done on that day, is something more than we could give back…
Confused and Cannot relate? This is the Feed and Give Project WE have organized for the benefit of the street kids of Hands-On Manila. Contact me for pledges, donations and moral support.

Newton Series Episode 01
07.24.09 First run. 5.0 kms. Easy Tempo.
08.07.09 Second run. 3.8 kms. Easy Speed.
That’s just some distance. What’s common is these two dates is what Im wearing. My NEWTON Racer.
Cool #1: The shoe seem to propel you forward. Due to the lugs, I guess.
Cool #2: I was able to run faster. But wait, this will have to stand verification on my future repeat run at the same distance.
Cool #3: The landing is soft and comfortable. I like it.
Cool #4: Will soon post the picture of the unscathed heel part.
Booh #1: Same effect the day after….very painful calf-muscle.
