I thought i’d blog only about running…and running related activities? Yeah. I still do. and I will. Why would i include here the TAKBO.PH NUTRITION AND HEALTH SEMINAR? http://takbo.ph/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=101&Itemid=1
FO(U)R A LOT OF REASONS:
1.The Seminar was conducted for runners
2.The Seminar relates nutrition with our activities as runners.
3.I am a member of TAKBO.PH
(and proud – of it, of being one)
4.You will know the reason why if you would attend it! The teaser is just below here.
I made my own research re this wonderful plant: MALUNGGAY.
It’s Moringa in English, and Sajina in Indian Subcontinent and South East Asia. It grows very wildly in hot tropical climate, like ours.
Moringa is nature’s medicine cabinet!
It is best known as an excellent source of nutrition and a natural energy booster. Loaded with nutrients, vitamins and amino acids, it replenishes your body and provides what you need to get through a hectic weekday or active weekend.
Moringa gives back some of the energy you thought was lost.
Yet this is not a sugar-based energy. It’s not something, which makes you hyper for some period of intense activity then leaves you drained. In fact, Moringa is also relaxing…it helps reduce blood pressure and assure a good night sleep. How does it contribute more energy and greater relaxation at the same time?
It’s Moringa’s ability to purify water…attaching itself to harmful material and bacteria, and allowing them to be expelled as waste. The evidence points to this same process going on inside your body. Like the Quaker Oats you love!
It produces long-lasting energy without hyperactivity… a nerve system at rest… a blood system not under pressure…a gland and hormone system in balance.
Other health benefits identified by people who use Moringa continue this same pattern:
immune system strengthened,
skin condition restored,
blood pressure controlled,
headaches and migraines handled,
diabetes sugar level managed,
inflammations and arthritis pains reduced,
tumors restricted and ulcers healed.
…a well-documented detoxifying effect!
Galing no? Research ko yan…wala yan sa sinabi kagabi! 🙂
Moringa is loaded with nutrients. Each ounce of Moringa contains seven times the Vitamin C found in oranges, four times the Vitamin A of carrots, three times the iron of spinach, four times as much calcium as milk and three times the potassium of bananas.
One of the best attributes of Moringa is that it is also quite tasty and a welcome addition to your kitchen. The leaves, pods and flowers of this versatile tree are all edible, each with its own flavor. They can be served fresh with meals, or be reduced to powder and used as a food supplement.
Next week, the speaker would even make a MALUNGGAY PANCAKE for us! Oh yeah!
A cup of MALUNGGAY =
= 4 cups of milk
= 5 cups of broccoli
= 8 cups of cauliflower (who says am not listening? :))
Comparable to malunggay, is the CAMOTE TALBOS, PETCHAY & KANGKONG.
Basically, we we’re just told to eat FRUITS AND VEGETABLES AND FISH AND SEEDS. Eat want you want. That meat. But, stuff it with more veggies! With the variety of ‘Fruit Blends’ sampled for us to taste, para na rin kameng di.netox!
Dame kasi misconceptions before about Malunggay and it’s friends Talbos, KangKong and Petchay. We didnt know ‘LOADED’ with what we need na pala itong mga veggies na ito. Unbelievable, but true!
The Seminar started with statistics and studies. Very convincing. And listed below is the acronym of where and what we should start with. But decide first that YOU want to be healthy.
WATER for hydration
SUNSHINE for vitamin D! even at noon time daw, at least 5 minutes, expose your porcelain personality in the sun!
TEMPERANCE or control on many things
AIR fresh and clean, i suppose!
REST like we do (taper)
TRUST IN GOD self-explanatory to, souls!
These are the listed things that we should include in our daily activities. Exercise nga raw daily! If you cant run, walk! and WALK 10,000 STEPS!
Then, CARBO LOADING was discussed. Amazing facts. We store energy as glycogen in our Liver and? MUSCLE! YES! jan sa binti mo!sa hita! sa paa!
FACTS: WORTH googling into High-Carbo Diet increases
CARBO LOADING 83% gives you sustained activity for 167 minutes!
just 75% carbs with Daily Training for marathoners ha, stores glyco in your liver and muscle 160g and 720g respectively. More glyco in your muscle and liver, more energy! MAS HAPPY! (Enervon yata un! :))
Remove din daw, in our diet, ‘INTERNAL ORGANS’. Di raw yun food. High Cholesterol content kasi. Avoid Smoking. QUIT if you still do. Avoid din ang High Blood Pressure. Wag daw madali magalit. Wag matakaw sa mga ‘pampabata’ foods. And if you have no idea how to eat daw, eat according to colors! Make your plate look like a rainbow sa dami ng varied fruits and veggies.
Make sense to me. Excellent ideas. Great job for the TAKBO.PH admin, c JINOE. and Quennie…and those who attended…and the speaker.
